KHAIRPUR, June 14: Over 300 farmers staged a demonstration at Pir Wassan Chowk on the Kumb-Nawabshah link road here on Wednesday.

Led by Sajid Bhambhan, former PPP district president, the protesters raised slogans against irrigation officials for artificial shortage of water in Ali Nawaz Wah and other canals.

On this occasion, Sajid Bhambhan said that after the announcement of this demonstration, a fake case had been registered against farmers, including him, to keep them away from the protest.

They alleged that irrigation officials were selling water to influential growers.

The protesters said people were compelled to ruin their agricultural lands under pressure of police and irrigation officials.

On the other hand, PPP MPA Nawab Khan Wassan told newsmen on Wednesday that police and irrigation officials should be punished for registering fake cases against farmers.

RALLY: A large number of people of the Channa community took out a procession here on Wednesday against police for not arresting people nominated in the murder case of three persons of the community.

Led by Ahmed Ali Channa, the procession started from Maryam Toup and after marching through the Court Road, Civic Centre Chowk, Mall Road, it converted into a rally at the Chhatti Chowk.

Speaking on the occasion, leaders said three persons Ghulam Rasool, Ayaz Ali and Ghulam Hussain were killed on May 22.

They said two FIRs had been lodged nominating the accused, but the police had failed in arresting them.

WATER THEFT: The Mirwah and Faiz Ganj police on Tuesday registered a case of water theft against 26 persons, including a PPP MPA and a former Sindh lawmaker.

The police nominated lawmaker Zahid Hussain Bhambhan, his brother former MPA Sajid Bhambhan, Yousuf Lashari, Sultan Brohi, Arbab Khan, Ashiq Ali, Waqar Ali, Ali Dino, Mohammad Yasin, Ghulam Ali and Bakht Ali Hisbani (member PPP Sindh council).
