Six newly-confirmed judges of Peshawar High Court take oath

PESHAWAR: Six newly-confirmed judges of Peshawar High Court took oath of their offices on here Monday.

Peshawar High Court Chief Justice SM Attique Shah administered oath to them in a simple ceremony attended by judges, law officers, lawyers and staff officers, etc.

The confirmed judges include Justice Mohammad Tariq Afridi, Justice Mian Abdul Fayyaz, Justice Salahud Din, Justice Sadiq Ali, Justice Syed Mudasser Ameer and Justice Qazi Jawad Ehsanullah.

They have served as additional judges of the high court for almost a year. They have been appointed as permanent judges by the President of Pakistan on the recommendation of Judicial Commission of Pakistan. A notification of their appointment was issued on Jan 22.

PHC Bar Association also hosted a reception in the honour of newly-confirmed judges. President of the association Ameenur Rehman Yousafzai and other office-bearers welcomed the judges.

All the six judges, before their elevation to the bench last year, were senior lawyers. They are considered well-versed in different fields of law.

Justice Tariq Afridi and Justice Mian Abdul Fayyaz have also remained presidents of PHC Bar Association. Justice Mudasser Ameer is considered well-versed in constitutional and corporate law. He was a known face in cases related to National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Justice Qazi Jawad Ehsanullah, is the son of a former judge of high court late Justice Qazi Ehsanullah Qureshi. He was also a prominent lawyer known for dealing with different categories of legal cases including constitutional, corporate, civil and criminal matters.

Similarly, Justice Sadiq Ali and Justice Salahuddin are experts in civil matters apart from other fields of law. Justice Sadiq was member of KP Bar Council at the time of his elevation and also served as its vice-chairman. Presently, PHC has 20 judges, including four additional judges, against the sanctioned strength of 30.

An additional judge Justice Farah Jamshed is the lone female judge on the bench. Hailing from Mansehra, she joined judicial service in 1994 as civil judge and was promoted as district and sessions judge in 2011.
