ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Party of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Monday demanded the withdrawal of cases against founding chairman Imran Khan and the reconstitution of the Election Commission of Pakistan.

Meeting at Parliament House under Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the party passed a unanimous resolution seeking the immediate release of political prisoners and the restoration of family visits for the former prime minister. The group claimed the country is passing through a “sensitive phase.”

Participants called on democratic forces to agree on a new Charter of Democracy to ensure transparent, free and fair elections so people can elect their true representatives. The resolution also demanded the implementation of the Peace Jirga declaration for lasting peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The party condemned the police brutality against the Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan in Punjab and obstacles created for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister in Sindh.

Paying tribute to Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Khan and de-seated members, the group praised supporters in Lahore and Karachi for demonstrating their struggle for democratic rights.
