KARACHI: A fire erupted at a restaurant on Tipu Sultan Road on Monday, rescue officials said.

Rescue-1122 spokesperson Hassaan-ul-Haseeb Khan told Dawn that the fire broke out in the exhaust system in the Angethi restaurant’s kitchen. Smoke spread to the first floor through the duct.

The rescue team responded promptly and evacuated around 15 staff members. The fire was brought under control after strenuous efforts by two fire tenders. The first floor was partially affected. No one was reported injured.

Mr Khan said it was an electrical fire, though it was not caused by a short circuit.
