LARKANA: Police claimed to have killed a most wanted dacoit, Kehar alias Kaihu Jatoi, who was carrying Rs2.5 million head money, in an encounter within the jurisdiction of Gairelo police station on Sunday.
During snap checking, police exchanged fire with three suspects. In the crossfire, one suspect was killed at the hands of his associates, the public relations department of Larkana police, claimed, adding that a Kalashnikov was recovered from his possession.
The slain dacoit was a key member of the gang of notorious dacoit Sathi Jatoi, who had already been killed in an encounter two months ago. Kaihu was also involved in the martyrdom of inspector Mir Muhammad Khoso, he said.
Kaihu Jatoi was wanted in more than 53 cases registered with different police stations involving organised crimes and robberies, and was a proclaimed offender in over 17 cases, police said.
The Sindh government had announced a reward of Rs2.5 million for his arrest.
The information wing said police continued intensive patrolling, strict snap checking and combing operations across the district to ensure protection of lives and property of the citizens. Operation against other accomplices of the slain dacoit was under way, it said.
On Thursday (Jan 8), two notorious criminals, including one carrying Rs2 million head money, were killed in a police encounter on the Ratodero bypass road within the jurisdiction of Ratodero police station, the SSP office claimed.
Two Kalashnikovs were recovered from their possession. They were identified as Khuda Bakhsh alias Khudo Jalbani, who was carrying the head money, and Mir Hassan alias Mero Jalbani.
SSP Ahmed Chaudhry said both dacoits were a constant source of harassment for the public and had become a serious threat to the peace of Ratodero and its adjoining areas. Involved in more than 64 heinous criminal cases, Khudo Jalbani was a proclaimed offender in over 33 cases while Mero Jalbani was involved in over 55 serious criminal cases and declared a proclaimed offender in over 15 cases.
