SIALKOT, June 11: An assistant sub-inspector of police was held for snatching cash and valuables from the people on the Kashmir Road in city’s congested Pakka Garha locality late Saturday night.

Reports said two armed persons stopped Muhammad Nadeem who was on his way home by his motorcycle and snatched Rs1,000 in cash and gold ornaments from his sister-in-law, the pillion rider, at gunpoint. Nadeem, however, raised an alarm as a result of which people gathered there and overpowered the plunderers.

One of the gangsters was later identified as Mubarak Ali, an ASI who is currently on duty at the police lines. The people beat up both and handed them over to the Muradpur police.

They were sent behind bars after registration of a case.

Earlier in the day, constable Muhammad Mubashar was shot dead by two armed men near Chowk Dogran-Uggoki.

According to reports, Mubashar was on his way to his workplace when two motorcyclists shot him on resistance. The gangsters fled firing in the air.

The Uggoki police have registered a case.
