BAHAWALPUR, June 11: The UBL fraud case involving Rs30 million may be referred to the NAB for trial. It was learnt here on Sunday that officials concerned were contemplating to hand over the investigation of this case to the NAB as banks governed by the State Bank did not fall within the jurisdiction of the Punjab police (Bahawalpur).

A discussion to this effect is presently going on within the legal police circles, which were of the firm opinion that the case and its further investigation should be handed over to the NAB.

Although the local police on the complaint of UBL’s Farid Gate branch manager Ajmal Khan took a prompt action and got arrested accused Rizwan Ahmed and also recovered Rs12.9 million from him, yet after that the police investigation was rather slow.

ASP Mahar Zulfiqar Ali said that rest of the 10 accused nominated in the FIR would soon be arrested.

It may be mentioned that a theft case of millions of rupees, in which constables on duty at the NBP’s Khairpur Tamewali branch were involved, was also referred to the NAB a few years back.

TRIAL: Six activists of a banned outfit, who were arrested some two days back at Zahir Pir (Rahim Yar Khan), would be tried by a local Anti-Terrorism Court, it was learnt on Sunday.

The accused would now be produced at the ATC on June 23 after the completion of their remand period.

The Rahim Yar Khan police had already obtained a 12-day remand of the accused.

The arrested accused were reportedly involved in several cases of murder, robbery and sectarian terrorism.
