MIRPURKHAS, June 11: Following a clash between passengers of Thar Express over seats, windows of the train were broken and a demonstration was held against the railways authorities for not allocating separate bogies and seats for travellers from Mirpurkhas here on Saturday.
It is learnt that when Munabao-bound Thar Express reached the Mirpurkhas railway station early in the morning, about 175 passengers of Mirpurkhas tried to get into in the bogies, but the doors were closed as passengers from Karachi and Hyderabad had already occupied all seats in the train.
A fist fighting took place among the passengers for loading luggage and getting seats. Some of the enraged passengers broke windows of a few bogies. Later, police were summoned which brought the situation under control. The passengers of Mirpurkhas staged a demonstration at the railway station demanding of the railway authorities to provide additional two bogies and fix 200 seats for passengers of Mirpurkhas in Thar Express.
The Divisional Commercial Officer, Hasan Tahir Bukhari, however, denied any such incident.
DCO: DCO Mumtaz Ali Shah has directed officers of the Sindh Rural Development Project to improve their efficiency so that people in rural areas are provided with basic facilities.
He was presiding over a meeting of officers of the project. EDO (community and development) Abdul Raheem Soomro was also present on the occasion.
The DCO said the project for which the Asian Development Bank had provided Rs3,754.06 million had been started to provide basic facilities to deprived areas of Mirpurkhas, Badin, Sanghar and Thatta districts.
He directed the officers to conduct a final survey of target villages and form a district coordination committee.
