TOBA TEK SINGH, June 10: The city police claimed on Saturday to have arrested a man, who was roaming about in Bakhshi Park locality introducing him as ‘Imam Mehdi’.

The police said Alam Ansari was distributing photostat copies of, what he said, his writings conveying his teachings.

A case has been registered against him under section 295 C and section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act. The police also instituted a case against Irshad, a photostat shop owner of Jhang Road who allegedly provided copies to Alam, a powerloom worker.

Later, the accused was produced before the Anti-Terrorist Court judge who sent him behind the bars on judicial remand.

Speaking to newsmen in the judicial lock up, Alam claimed that he had many followers. He said he had migrated here from Hafizabad 25 years ago.

It is pertinent to mention that a Toba Tek Singh citizen, Shahbaz had stolen the limelight by introducing himself as Imam Mehdi in Faisalabad. He was awarded death sentence by an anti-terrorism court and he is currently in a Faisalabad prison.
