BAHAWALPUR, June 10: FIA on Saturday handed over two accused of the wheat scandal to the Bahawalpur police for further interrogation.
Accused Adnan and Nadeem were arrested from Dubai through Interpol and were brought to Pakistan.
Police produced them before a court here and got their remand five days.
Nadeem and Adnan of Karachi, along with several accomplices, purchased wheat worth millions of rupees from local businessmen and gave them cheques which bounced. A number of criminal cases were registered against them.
UBL CASE: Meanwhile, Kotwali police obtained four days’ physical remand of Rizwan, the ringleader of UBL fraud case.
Rizwan, in charge of electronic transfers section, along with other staff members of the Farid Gate branch embezzled more than Rs26.8 million.
UPLIFT PROJECT: The first phase of Rs1.32 billion water supply and sewerage scheme will be launched next month.
The phase would cost Rs90 million, said district nazim Tariq Bashir Cheema while presiding over a meeting here on Saturday.
The project is being funded by ADB under which basic amenities would be extended to the local population.
Mr Cheema said the chief minister was expected to launch the project.
The meeting decided to launch a regular operation against encroachments in the city for which a separate squad, comprising police, would be formed.
The nazim ordered to demolish all illegal constructions without any pressure and discrimination to beautify the city.
The meeting decided to set up a horticulture section in the TMA for the development of green belts. The meeting also reviewed the improvement of general bus stand.
DOCTORS’ DEAMAND: The Pakistan Medical Association, Bahawalpur chapter, demanded of the Punjab Medical Association to hold association’s election without any delay.
They said the elections of the Bahawalpur chapter could not be held for the last nine years due to which doctors were facing numerous problems.
