KOHAT, June 9: A fugitive was killed in an ‘encounter’ with the Shakardarra town police early on Friday morning. According to police, Noor Aslam alias Noori was wanted by the Kohat police in three murder cases and one case of attempted murder. He extorted money from local businessmen and committed robberies in the area.

The Shakardarra police acting on information that he was engaged in looting vehicles reached there and asked him to surrender. But instead he opened fire on the police. The police retaliated as a result of which he was killed on the spot.

The DSP, Saddar Circle, Hilal Haider, said at a press conference on Friday that the police recovered a Kalashnikov, two hand grenades and 22 cartridges from his possession.

ROBBERY: Authorities are still to trace robbers who looted students and staff of the Kohat University of Science and Technology in the Mattani area, north of tribal Darra Adam Khel, last month.

The university administration and authorities concerned are keeping a mum over the issue and the students have been demanding recovery of their belongings, including video cameras, mobile phones, jewellery and watches.

According to students, they were returning from a study tour on May 27 in a bus when eight armed people stopped them on the road at 7pm. The robbers moved the bus off the road and then deprived the students of valuables at gunpoint.
