ISLAMABAD: The Tehreek Tahafuz Ayeen-i-Pakistan (TTAP), an alliance of opposition parties, will hold a two-day national conference at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House here on Saturday (today) against what it described as “repeated violations of the country’s supreme law”.

According to a TTAP statement, the objective of the conference is to safeguard the Constitution, which it said has been undermined repeatedly due to weak implementation, delayed elections and the erosion of parliamentary supremacy.

“The Constitution has been made controversial through the 26th and 27th Amendments, forcing the resignation of top judges, while the media has been stifled through Peca (Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act),” it said.

The TTAP alleged that the Feb 8 elections were rigged, leading to the suspension of democracy and the erosion of fundamental freedoms, adding that constitutional principles were sidelined despite public resistance. TTAP Chairman Mahmood Khan Achakzai said in the statement that insecurity, economic decline and social unrest were direct consequences of ignoring constitutional rule.
