LAHORE, June 8: The Gujranwala range DIG and district police officer (DPO) were transferred on Thursday. The transfer of DIG Zafar Abbas Lak, a close relative of the Chaudhries, gave a surprise to senior police circles here.
Sources said Mr Lak had been at odds with his DPO Dr Arif Mushtaq for some months. The differences had affected police working badly in Gujranwala, they added. Both the officials had been issuing orders against each other regarding transfers and postings of policemen, they said.
Sheikhupura DIG Muhammad Anwar Virk had been directed to look after the affairs of Gujranwala range for the time being. Similarly, Gujranwala SP (investigation) Muhammad Maqbool would take additional charge of the DPO office, a notification of the Punjab government said.
Vehari DPO Muhammad Mukhtar Tikka had also been transferred and ordered to report to police headquarters. Multan SP (investigation) Manzoor Sarwar had been directed to look after the affairs of the Vehari DPO office until further orders.
