PESHAWAR: The police’s Counter-Terrorism Department on Tuesday killed three suspected terrorists in an intelligence-based operation in Akhund Baba Cemetery area on the outskirts of the provincial capital.

In a statement issued here, CTD said that the incident took place on Azkhel Road in the limits of the Mattani police station.

It said that acting on a tip-off about the presence of the terrorists in the area, CTD personnel rushed there, but terrorists opened fire.

The personnel returned the fire, and three terrorists, whose identities were yet to be ascertained, were killed in the ensuing gun battle, while two others managed to escape from the scene.

Police recovered three AK-47 rifles and nine spare magazines from the scene.

A search operation was currently underway to apprehend the terrorists on the run.
