SANGHAR, June 8: Polling in the by-elections for PS-80 Khipro (Sanghar-III) seat was held in a peaceful atmosphere on Thursday.
The main contestants are: Umer Gul Hingorjo of the PPP and Shamsuddin Rajar of the PML-F.
The Muttahida Ghosia Jamaat supported the PML-F candidate.
PPP Sindh president Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that five polling agents Subhan Ali Laghari, Amir Bux, Aftab, Hafeez and another, whose names could not be ascertained, were forcibly taken away by supporters of the PML-F.
Speaking at a press conference in Khipro, he said that Subhan Ali Laghari was forcibly taken away from the Dhaliar Government High School and tortured by supporters of the PML-F.
He said that supporters of the PML-F also took away Rs7,500 and his UC card. He was bleeding from the head while presented before reporters.
MPAs Shazia Mari and Ali Nawaz Shah Rizvi, Qambar Leghari, Sarfaraz Rajar and other PPP leaders were present on the occasion.
They said that in order to facilitate PML-F candidate, the local election authorities did not allow PPP’s polling agents brought from areas other than Sanghar.
They said that polling process continued in absence of polling agents of the PPP candidate.
The counting of votes had begun till filing of this report.
