LAHORE: A judicial magistrate on Monday allowed Barki police a three-day physical remand of DSP Usman Haider Gujjar, a suspect in the murder case of his wife and daughter.

Earlier, a police team produced the officer before Magistrate Ali Akbar and sought his 14-day physical remand.

The investigating officer told the magistrate that the suspect had confessed to committing his crime and the bodies of the victims had been recovered. He said physical remand of the suspect was required to complete the investigation.

After examining the record, the magistrate granted a three-day physical remand of DSP Haider Gujjar to the police. The magistrate ordered the IO to submit a report on the investigation conducted during the physical remand on the next hearing.

Initially, the DSP had lodged a case of kidnapping of his wife and 19-year-old daughter.

However, the police later found the evidence of murder of the both women by the DSP himself.

According to police, the DSP killed his wife and daughter for opposing his wish for a second marriage.

TORTURE CASE: A judicial magistrate extended physical remand of assistant superintendent jail Faisal Imtiaz in a case involving the alleged torture of an inmate.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) produced the officer before the magistrate and sought extension to his physical remand for investigation. The magistrate allowed the request and extended the physical remand of the suspect for two days.

The FIA had registered a case against the assistant superintendent jail under the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention and Punishment) Act 2022. Imtiaz is accused of torturing the inmate, Shoaib.

SENTENCE: A sessions court has awarded life imprisonment to a man for killing his wife over the birth of three daughters.

The convict was also ordered to pay a compensation of Rs300,000 to the heirs of the deceased.

Shafiqabad police had registered the case in 2024 against Mudassar Hussain.

The prosecution told the court that the accused had married Ayesha 13 years ago and the couple had three daughters. It stated that the accused frequently quarreled with Ayesha over the birth of daughters and ultimately strangled her to death.
