VEHARI, June 7: Basic health units in many districts of Punjab have been handed over to the Punjab Rural Support Programme since the government is determined to provide better health facilities to the people living in far-flung areas.

This was stated by Public Accounts Committee chairman Asif Saeed Manais while presiding over a meeting at the district resource centre.

He said the performance of BHUs had been improved under the supervision of the PRSP where availability of doctors and staff had been ensured by the government.

He directed the health department officials to provide a doctor at every BHU where every patient should be provided with free medicines. The entire record of each BHU must be computerised, he ordered.

He said there was no room for absentee doctors in the department and the secretary would take action against those who had not been performing their duties regularly.
