KARACHI, June 7: The seventh meeting of the Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town Council was held on Wednesday with the town’s Naib Nazim, Shoaib Akhtar, in the chair.
A resolution for renewing the health insurance policy for the town’s employees was approved.
The meeting also approved other resolutions regarding road improvement scheme in UC-9, development of Chandni Park in UC-2 and completion of electricity works in UCs 6 and 12.
Other resolutions approved by the house included those about trade licenses and tax on immovable property.
MALIR TOWN: The Nazim of Malir Town, Kamran Akhter, on Wednesday hinted that the city government and town municipalities are in the process of developing a strategy to prevent any further encroachment of government and/or private land in Karachi.
Mr Akhter while visiting different union councils in his jurisdiction observed that encroachment had emerged to be the biggest impediment for development work and infrastructure.
He was accompanied by TMO Malir Ghulam Shabbir Jatoi, T O Waheed Lodhi, DTO Sanitation Ather Saeed, Information Officer Dr Rashid Mirza and others.
The nazim talking to area people said the removal of encroachment from 24 Market, Chandni Chowk, was not meant to commit any excess but to broaden the road from both sides to ease frequently witnessed congestion.
He mentioned that in the Centre Island of the thoroughfare, the town municipality planned to establish a food court, accommodating food vendors and road-side cabin owners doing food and beverage businesses at a small scale.
The shopkeepers belonging to Malir Town will be assisted in doing business in an organized manner without causing difficulties to passers-by and road users, he said.
The nazim of Malir Town also directed the concerned officials to ensure that all ditches and potholes were filled soon after the ongoing sewerage work on B-13 route was finished.
He also ordered immediate removal of all left over construction material from different parts of the town.The DTO Sanitation of the town, Ather Saeed, was asked to improve sanitation and cleanliness in Malir.
SHAH FAISAL: The Nazim of Shah Faisal Town, Muhammad Imran, on Wednesday announced that the city government would soon establish an IT institute in the Town, where students would be given free IT education.
All possible steps will be taken to promote the standard of education while public sector schools will also be upgraded private schools.
Speaking at a prize- and certificate-distribution ceremony organized by the Shamsi Society Model School, he said that it was great pleasure to know that private educational institutions were making efforts to promote education.
He said the town administration had surveyed all government schools of the area, which revealed that these schools were working in poor condition with old buildings and without desks.
Keeping in view this poor situation, the town administration in consultation with local elected representatives, area’s notables and teachers started working to uplift educational institutions, he said.
Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai, Shafiq Rathor and Principal Shamsi Society Model School also spoke.
JAMSHED TOWN: The Nazim of Jamshed Town, Muhammad Arif Ajikia, on Wednesday directed the concerned officials to expedite the pace of work on different ongoing development projects in the town.
He was chairing a meeting of concerned officials of Buildings and Roads, Mechanical and Engineering, Anti-Encroachment, and Sanitary departments of the city government, said a statement.
The meeting made detailed deliberations on the progress of ongoing work at different development projects in the town.
The nazim directed the concerned officials to complete all projects in stipulated time while maintaining high standards.
He later reviewed progress of ongoing projects in different UCs of the town.—PPI/APP
