ISLAMABAD, June 6: The Pakistan Muslim League (Q) to organise Quaid-i-Azam Cup sports tournaments at the provincial and national levels next month as part of its centenary celebrations.

A preliminary meeting in this regard chaired by Ch. Shujaat Hussain, president of PML, and attended by party members was held at the Punjab House on Tuesday.

Sarfraz Nawaz, the head of the PML sports committee told Dawn that handsome cash prizes will be given to the successful players and teams.

Among the events to be contested are basketball, cricket, football, hockey, volleyball, athletics, kabaddi, wrestling (dangal), badminton and table tennis.

There will also be events for women who will compete in basketball, badminton and table tennis.

The meeting was also attended by Federal Minister for Sports Mian Shamim Haider, Mushahid Hussain secretary of PML (Q), the chief of Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), Col (Retd) Salahuddin and heads of national federations.

Sarfraz said that Pakistan sportsmen/sportswomen will be honoured during the centenary celebrations.
