LONDON, June 6: The dollar gained against the euro on Tuesday after Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke gave a toughly-worded speech that caused market odds on a June US rate increase to jump.
In a speech on Monday, Bernanke pointed out that inflation may rise further, raising market expectations of a quarter-point increase in US rates this month, which lent support to the dollar.
In late European trading, the euro edged up to $1.2829 on Tuesday from $1.2903 late on Monday in New York.
The dollar stood at 113.32 yen from 112.23 yen on Monday.
