LAHORE, June 4: Kite-string slit open the throat of yet another minor in the city on Sunday. Muhammad Ejaz of Old Anarkali told police that he had taken his two-and-a-half-year old son Abdur Rehman to a marriage ceremony in Shafiqabad. Returning home, he added, his son who was sitting on the fuel tank of his motorcycle, was struck by a kite string at Islamia Chowk in the Bhatti Gate police area.
It was a matter of seconds and blood began oozing from his throat, he said.
Ejaz said he rushed his son to the Mayo Hospital where he was received dead on arrival. The police have returned the body to the family without autopsy.
Later, Operations police DIG said that Bhatti Gate police despite repeated instructions had failed to enforce ban on the sale of metal-coated string and the kite flying in their jurisdiction.
He suspended Bhatti police SHO inspector Adeel Saeed from service, and ordered him to join an inquiry for further departmental action against him.
