ISLAMABAD, June 2: Federal Minister for Social Welfare and Special Education Zobaida Jalal on Friday informed the Senate that there were 141 unclaimed women and 463 orphan, unaccompanied and separated children belonging to the earthquake-affected areas of the NWFP and Azad Kashmir.
In a written reply to a question of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) Senator Dr Kausar Firdaus, the minister said that at present, nine unclaimed women had been provided shelter by the government in “Ashiana Centre” at Hattian district in Attock.
Ms Jalal said that remaining 132 women had been provided shelter in the camps established for the purpose in Muzaffarabad, Bagh and Mansehra.
Similarly, the minister said, 308 orphans and unaccompanied children were being provided shelter, food, healthcare and vocational training at “Ashiana Centre” and 155 children had been kept at SOS villages. These children and women, she said, belonged to Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Shangla, Muzaffarabad, Bagh and Rawalakot districts.
MANPOWER EXPORT: Federal Minister for Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis Ghulam Sarwar Khan on Friday told the Senate that Islamabad was about to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Seoul under which over 3,300 labourers would be sent to Korea by the end of 2006.
Responding to a question of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) Senator Dr Muhammad Ismail Buledi, the minister said that the Pakistan government had not received any manpower request from the Korean government in recent past.
The minister said the manpower, however, was being exported to Korea in the private sector through industrial training system.
He said 7,423 industrial trainees were sent last year to Korea. He said two private promoters were working in this field and this year there was a demand of 1,006 workers.
He said for the first time, the Korean government had included the name of Pakistan in the list of the countries, it imports manpower.
