VEHARI, June 2: Six girls and three boys primary schools are being run in rented buildings in Mailsi city for the last 30 years.

The girls’ schools include that of Dharampura, Tilopura, Rasoolpura, Riazabad, Ward No 2, Durhatta, and boys’ schools of Haripura, Islampura and Rasoolpura.

According to information collected by this correspondent, about 300 students are getting education in the school at Dharampura, 150 at Tilopura, 200 at Rasoolpura, 200 in Riazabad, 180 at Ward No 2, 200 at Durhatta, 170 in the boys’ school in Haripura, 110 in Islampura and 140 in Rasoolpura.

However, the education department and the district government high ups are unaware of the problems staff and students of these schools are facing.

It is learnt that the schools are being run in rented buildings due to unavailability of official buildings and often the schools have to move to another place when owners raise rent or ask for their vacation for personal reasons.

Most of these rented buildings do not have furniture, electric fans, clean drinking water, electricity and toilets. Before the induction of the new local government system in 2001, the municipal committee used to pay the rent.

But the TMA is not ready to pay the rent on the plea that under the new system, the education department has been given in the control of the provincial government and it is liable to pay the rent.

It is stated that the department concerned does not have funds under this head.

When contacted, the education department officials expressed helplessness in this regard.

The staff, students and their parents appealed to the provincial and the district governments to look into the matter and take steps to resolve the issue.
