KARACHI: A United Nations report has revealed 63 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany, are complicit in what it describes as Israel’s “two-year genocide in the Gaza Strip”, it emerged on Wednesday.

The report, authored by UN’s special rapporteur on Palestine Francesca Albanese, asserts Israel’s actions were enabled by diplomatic, military and economic support from “third states”, according to Dawn.com.

“The genocide in Gaza was not committed in isolation, but as part of a system of global complicity,” the report stated. “Many states, primarily Western ones, have facilitated, legitimised and eventually normalised the genocidal campaign perpetrated by Israel.”

The report claims Tel Aviv’s “settler-colonial apartheid” in Palestinian territories is bolstered by powerful nations, which perpetuate “colonial and racial-capitalist practices” by shielding Israel from accountability.

The document details multiple forms of complicity.

On the diplomatic front, it criticises influential countries for supporting Israeli narratives and Washington’s UN vetoes.

“Unlike apartheid South Africa, Israel remains in global sports and cultural forums.”

The report noted that not holding Israel accountable for its longstanding international crimes, despite clear court orders, highlights the international community’s double standards.

It said nations, including the US, Germany, and Italy, continued supplying arms to Israel despite mounting evidence of genocide.

“The third US-Israel MoU, effective until 2028, guarantees $3.3 billion [per] year in foreign military financing plus $500 million [per] year for missile defence,” the document stated.

Since October 2023, it added, the US has sent hundreds of arms consignments. The UK didn’t supply arms but reportedly allowed a US supply line via Cyprus bases and conducted numerous surveillance flights over Gaza.
