MIRPURKHAS, Oct 5: Scores of distries and minors of Nara canal command area have dried up due to acute shortage of water in Nara head.

This has adversely affected the standing cotton, chilli, sugarcane, onion and vegetable crop.

It is apprehended that if this situation continued, there might be crisis of drinking water in the Nara command area. Nara head was supplying 5500 cusics flow of water from Sukkur barrage against its actual demand of 13000 cusics since the last two weeks, but recently water discharge has been decreased to 4500 cusics at the Nara head, creating acute shortage of water and drying a number of distries and minors.

The experts have noted that wheat sowing would also be delayed. Irrigation department was implementing strictly over rotation programme. Shortage of drinking water was also reported from various villages.

Farmers and abadgars have expressed their concern over the acute shortage of water and closing of distries and minors for two to three weeks on the pretext of rotation.

They have demanded of the authorities to provide water for their standing crops in sufficient quantity to save them from heavy loss.

THREE KILLED: Three occupants of car were killed in a road accident near Kamaro Sharif here at Mirpurkhas-Hyderabad road on Friday.

The car was heading from Hyderabad to Mirpurkhas. When it reached near Kamaro Sharif, a Hyderabad-bound coach, coming from opposite direction collided head on with it, as result of which three car occupants died at the spot.

THEFT: Four thieves barged into the premises of water supply scheme, Jam Nawaz Ali town, on Thursday late night and took away a heavy pumping machine worth Rs 40,000.

Abdul Wahid Wassan, watchman of the water supply scheme has lodged a case with Jam Nawaz Ali police.
