Lawyers’ strike today

Published June 1, 2006

LAHORE, May 31: The Punjab Bar Council on Wednesday issued a call for a strike on Thursday against, what it said, continued victimisation by police.

PBC vice-chairman Chaudhry Azhar told Dawn that the police had failed to take action against those who had assaulted lawyers across the province and yet escaped the legal action.

Replying to a question, he said the council had requested the members not to appear in courts as a protest.

When asked that such calls had met with no response in the past, Mr Azhar said the council would take action against the lawyers who would ignore the strike call this time.
