PESHAWAR/LAKKI MARWAT/ BAJAUR: Retribution operations against terrorists involved in the October 7 attacks on security forces continued on Friday, with 30 more terrorists killed in an operation carried out in Orakzai district, the military’s media wing said.
Earlier, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement issued on Oct 7 said in an exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists 19 militants were killed.
On Friday, ISPR said the latest operation was launched based on intelligence reports about the presence of terrorists in Jamal Maya area of Orakzai. Following an intense exchange of firing, all 30 “Indian-sponsored” terrorists were killed, the statement said, adding that the successful operation had “avenged the heinous act” and brought the main perpetrators to justice.
The statement added that sanitisation operations were underway to eliminate any remaining Fitna al Khawarij, the term used by the state to refer to terrorists belonging to the banned TTP, in the area.
Bajaur mortar attack
In Bajaur, four persons, including two women, were killed and three others injured when mortar shells fired from unknown directions landed in Almazo and Chinagai areas of the district on Friday.
Locals said two women and a child were among the victims, while three children were injured.
Multiple official sources confirmed the incidents to Dawn, saying the mishaps occurred during exchange of fire between security forces and militants.
Sources claimed that several terrorists, whose exact number could not be confirmed, were also killed and wounded during the fighting that lasted for several hours.
Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased protested by placing a body on Civil Colony Road, Khar, demanding an inquiry. They dispersed after Assistant Commissioner Dr Sadiq Ali assured them their demands would be addressed.
Two terrorists killed
In Lakki Marwat, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) killed two militants — including the mastermind behind the killing of four police officials — during an intelligence-based operation in the Domel area late on Thursday night.
A police official said the operation was jointly conducted by local police and the CTD’s SWAT team on credible intelligence regarding the presence of militants. The area was cordoned off to prevent their escape, leading to a half-hour exchange of fire in which the two militants were killed.
Meanwhile, three activists of the Marwat-Bettani Tehreek, Farmanullah, Waliullah and Attaullah, who were kidnapped from Bannu, were found dead near the Tochi Bridge, police said.
D.I. Khan attack repulsed
At least three terrorists, including a suicide bomber, were killed on Friday night in retaliatory fire by law enforcers after an attack on a police training centre in Dera Ismail Khan was repulsed.
D.I. Khan DPO Sajjad Sahibzada confirmed the killing of the three terrorists, adding that a large contingent of security forces reached the site and cordoned off the area.
Police confirmed that the training centre premises were cleared and all terrorists involved in the attack were killed.
Earlier, there were reports of a loud explosion in the vicinity of the police facility. D.I. Khan Police PRO Yaqoob Khan earlier told Dawn.com a “suicide bomber and two terrorists have been killed”.
