QUETTA, May 30: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan has urged opposition parties to launch a joint struggle against the government of Gen Pervez Musharraf. Addressing at a press conference at the press club here on Tuesday, he said that implementation of the Charter of Democracy would bring about a constitutional rule in the country.

He stressed the need for an independent judiciary in the country, saying it would guarantee transparent elections and ensure autonomy of the federating units.

Mr Khan said those creating dents in the ranks of opposition parties were agents of President Gen Musharraf.

Condemning the military operation in Balochistan, he said that extra-constitutional actions had created a sense of deprivation among the people of the province, adding that enemies of Pakistan would exploit the situation in Balochistan.

He called for ending the Balochistan operation and said political solution to all issues was needed because the use of force would endanger the integrity of the country.

He said that Gen Musharraf’s domestic and foreign policies had failed and his wrong economic policies had led to unprecedented price hike.

Mr Khan claimed that the US had paid $20 million to Pakistan for the military operation in Waziristan, adding that it was a tragedy that security forces were killing fellow citizens in Wana and Miramshah.

He said his party’s membership campaign was aimed at mobilising people for a decisive movement to be launched in September against the military ruler. He criticised allotment of 2500 acres for a new GHQ in Islamabad.
