GUJRANWALA, May 30: The district price control committee on Tuesday showed its resentment over the rising inflation and approved setting up of consumers courts to provide relief to the people.

At a meeting held here on Tuesday presided over by District Coordination Officer Manzer Hayat, the committee members stressed upon the need to curb hoarding and undue profiteering.

The DCO said prices of essential commodities would be fixed in consultation with traders, shopkeepers and market committees. Later on, all deputy district officers would be asked to conduct raids to check overcharging. He said the supply and demand system would also be revamped.

He warned that the Rs4 million subsidy would be stopped if millers failed to provide quality flour to people.

Executive district officers and other senior officials were also present.

TAXES withdraw: Qila Dedar Singh town administration withdrew 174 new proposed taxes on public pressure here on Tuesday.

The town administration had proposed 200 new taxes from July 1 and sought objections from traders, shopkeepers and people. But the trade organisations of Qila Dedar Singh, Gujranwala and Ladhewala opposed the taxes. The Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry also opposed the proposed taxes.

Qila Dedar Singh town nazim Mian Tariq Mahmood announced at a press conference withdrawal of 174 taxes. However, the remaining 26 taxes would be recovered from July 1.

Naib nazim Tariq Javed and other members besides representatives of trade organisations were also present on the occasion.
