FAISALABAD, May 28: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool has deputed his secretary Ahmad Kamal to conduct a probe into the alleged sexual harassment of a student at the hands of GC University vice-chancellor.

Sources said Mr Kamal, a grade-20 officer, would visit the varsity campus on Monday (today) and record the statements of students and faculty members.

The inquiry officer would also record the version of Vice-Chancellor Dr Asif Iqbal who had been accused by a LLB girl student of misbehaviour and subjecting her to sexual harassment.

Some varsity students suggested that the inquiry officer should record the students’ statements at an independent place so that the administration could not pressurise them.

They alleged that the ‘victim’ was being blackmailed by some faculty members regarding her career and had been told not to record her statement to the inquiry team.

Meanwhile, police have yet taken no action against the vice-chancellor on the hand-written complaint filed by the ‘victim’. The police had reportedly contacted the accused for recording his version a couple of days ago but he was not available.

Varsity’s girl students have demanded that Punjab IG should direct the local police to immediately register a case against the accused, otherwise such incidents could happen again.

ENTRY BANNED: The varsity administration has reportedly banned the entry of elected representatives on the campus and issued instructions to the security staff in this regard.

The vice-chancellor in a statement claimed that he was facing life threats due to which the security arrangements had been ‘tightened’ on the campus. None of the visitors would be allowed to enter the varsity without formal checking and knowing reasons of his or her visit, the statement said.
