ISLAMABAD, May 27: The Foreign Office on Saturday ruled out the possibility of Pakistan changing its position on providing foreign interrogators direct access to scientist Dr A.Q. Khan for questioning on his ‘nuclear network’.

“We have conducted thorough investigations into the A.Q. Khan network and shared all the information with the IAEA and relevant countries, and if anything new comes up we are ready to investigate,” acting Foreign Office spokesperson Sohail Mehmood told Dawn referring to demands by US lawmakers for direct access to the scientist.

He said non-Pakistani interrogators would not get direct access to Dr Khan. “However, we remain prepared for investigations on any new information that comes along the way”.

Responding to a claim that the nuclear export control system formed by the country had not been implemented, the spokesperson asserted: “We have new legislation in place and its implementation is on track.”
