GUJRANWALA, May 27: Taking serious notice of shortage of important books at Jinnah Library, the district administration has announced Rs20 million for the purpose, besides providing better facilities to readers particularly students of master degree.

District Coordination Officer Manzer Hayat on Saturday paid a surprise visit to the library at Trust Plaza and reviewed the system.

He said the Punjab chief minister had set aside Rs20 million for buying new books and providing better facilities to readers, including students.

Chief librarian Malik Muhammad Aslam told the DCO that funds had not been provided to the library for the last two years.

RobberIEs: Robbers looted two houses and took away motorcycle of a landlord in three strikes in and around the city here on Saturday.

Reports said as many as eight outlaws forced their entry into the house of landlord Arshad Mahmood Sundho of Wahando by scaling the boundary wall. They held hostage the inmates and made off with Rs240,000 in cash, two mobile phones and other valuables. Later they entered the house of his widow sister, Khalida Bibi, in the same area, held hostage her children and took away a cash of Rs15,000, jewellery worth Rs100,000 and valuables.

Some villagers reportedly chased them but came back after the robbers resorted to aerial firing.

In another incident, landlord Zafar Iqbal of Dehri Kalan, Qila Dedar Singh was on his way to village by his motorcycle (GAT-3535). Near the village, two outlaws intercepted him at gunpoint and deprived him of Rs1,500, a cell phone and motorcycle.

Police are investigating.

JAIL CASE: The local anti-terrorism court No.1 on Saturday continued the hearing of Sialkot jail incident and recorded the statement of Civil Lines former SHO Sanaullah Dhillon while complainant Ghulam Abbas Bukhari, father of deceased judge Shaher Yar Bukhari, quizzed him.

The court adjourned the case till June 2.
