Gastro now moves to Sheikhupura

Published May 27, 2006

SHEIKHUPURA, May 26: At least 100 people, a majority of them children, suffering from gastroenteritis were admitted to the DHQ hospital here on Friday.

Some 60 children were shifted to the ENT ward because of a lack of capacity in the children ward.

The medical officer at the emergency ward said 35 patients had been treated in five hours and the hospital lacked resources to meet any emergency. He said only one doctor was performing duty in the emergency ward.

Meanwhile, child specialist Dr Israrul Haq advised the people to use boiled water and properly clean hands to avert gastroenteritis. In case of the attack, he said, the use of ORS was a must.

Public Health Engineering research officer Zahid collected samples from different areas to ascertain the cause of gastroenteritis. He met Tehsil Nazim Bilal Virk and asked him to start chlorination in the tubewells.—Correspondent
