Briefing on Bhasha dam

LAHORE, May 24: Work on Diamer Bhasha dam has swung into full action after ground breaking ceremony by President Pervez Musharraf, said the general manager technical of the Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda).

Briefing a meeting on water sector at the Wapda House on Wednesday, the GM said that excavation work of third Aditt for conducting studies had begun. The authority is also establishing a vocational training institute in the area to train locals in dam building, he said.

It has also acquired two acres of land to construct a hostel and laboratory at Chillas and the National Highway Authority (NHA) is also about to start work on Tha Kot bridge, he said and added: “The authority has already submitted PC-I for acquiring land for Diamer Bhasha dam. International experts have expressed their complete satisfaction over all technical aspects of the project.”
