The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of a glacial lake outburst flood (Glof) in areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.

“The hydro-meteorological data from the stations installed at Arkari, Badswat, Darkut, Hisper Hoper, Ghundus and Gulkin under Glof-11 Project indicates a significant rise in temperature values, much higher than normal, which may accelerate glacier melt,” an alert read.

The PMD warned that there is an increased probability of Glof and flash floods, particularly in the locations above and in other areas generally.
