Continuing his interview, PDMA DG Kathia warned of the risk posed by flooding in both the Ravi and Sutlej Rivers, the latter of which has “unprecedented” levels of water.

“In the next 24-48 hours, flooding in the Ravi poses risks to Okara, Sahiwal, Toba Tek Singh and areas to the south,” he added.

“As we speak, unprecedented levels of water are in the Sutlej,” Kathia warned. “We had maintained a steady flow of 261,000 cusecs for the past five days. This afternoon, the levels suddenly rose and are currently at 387,000 cusecs. This water has entered Pakistan and there is a threat to populated areas.”

Kathia stated that this is a major challenge and the Punjab chief minister and other senior officials are personally monitoring the situation.
