ISLAMABAD: Muzammil Murtaza and Ushna Suhail clinched the respective men’s and women’s singles titles of the Pakistan Independence Day National Ranking Tennis Tournament here at the PTF Complex on Thursday.

Muzammil won after veteran Aqeel Khan, who had taken the first set 7-6 (7/2), retired having earlier featured in a thrilling doubles final alongside Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi. They overcame Barkatullah and Yousaf Khalil 4-6, 6-2, 10-8.

In the women’s final, Ushna comfortably outplayed Sheeza Sajid 6-1, 6-2.

Hamza Roman defeated Abdul Basit 6-0, 6-2 to secure the U-18 boys’ title, while Zunaisha Noor overcame Soha Ali 6-1, 6-4 to win the U-18 girls’ crown.

In the U-14 finals, Razik Sultan beat Mohammad Muaz 6-1, 6-2 in the boys’ event and Bismal Zia downed Aimen Rehan 6-3, 6-1 in the girls’ category.

The U-12 titles went to Khadija Khalil, who defeated Eman Shahbaz 6-1, 6-3 in the girls’ final, and Mohammad Ayan, who edged past Muaz 6-3, 6-4 in the boys’ decider.
