BAHAWALPUR: A woman and a man suffered serious burns in separate acid attacks at Noorpur Noranga and Uch Sharif, respectively, in the district on Sunday.

In the first incident,awoman, Shazia Bib (32), was allegedly subjected to an acid attack by herneighbor, Allah Bachaya, at Noorpur Noranga in the limits of Musafirkhana police station, about 30kms from here.

According to police, the suspect, who had a property dispute with the victim, threw acid on her when she was passing through a street, and fled.

On being informed, police and Rescue 1122 teams reached the scene. The rescuers shifted the victim in serious condition to the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) for treatment.

So far, the suspect has not been arrested, the police say.

In the second incident occurring at Uch Sharif, Arshad and his two accomplices allegedly threw acid on one Ghulam Shabirover a monetary dispute at the victim’s house at Uch Gilani locality, about 70kms from here.

He was shifted to the BVH for treatment.

Uch Sharif city police, on the victim’s complaint, registered FIR No 1366/25 under section366-B with no arrest as yet.

ARRESTED: Railway policeclaimed to have arrested two members of railway staff for allegedly misappropriating the amount they had collected from the onboard passengers of DN Jaffar Express, without issuing them tickets.

The police say that they recovered the amount from the suspects.

According to railway police sources, on Aug 21, a group of six passengers was travelling by the Jaffar Express. During their journey between Lodhran and Bahawalpur, an STE, accompanied by a conductor guard, checked the six passengers who were occupying seats and berths from No 55 to No 60 in coach No 5, without tickets.

The railway staffers charged the ticket amount, along with a fine, from the passengers but did not deposit the same in the official account, the police added.

On the complaint of Special Branch’s Head Constable, Ziaul Hassan, Bahawalpur railway police registered FIR No 33/25 undersections 161, PCA-47-2-5 of the PPC and arrested the suspects.

They were later produced before a duty magistrate, who referred the case to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) as the suspect’s lawyer objected to courtjurisdiction.
