KHAIRPUR, May 21: Farmers continued their protest on the fourth day on Sunday against unavailability of water at tail-ends of canals and sub-canals in Faiz Ganj, Thari Mirwah, Kotdiji and Sobhodero talukas.

A delegation of farmers from Thari Mirwah led by Aijaz Shar, chief of Sindh Hari Committee, told newsmen that no water had been released to tail-end areas of Sanisa Minor, Jajh Minor, Delah Minor and Bhango Shakh.

The Nara area of Thari Mirwah received its water for irrigation as well as for drinking purposes from Sanisa Minor, the delegation said.

Officials were forcibly recovering 100 per cent land revenue for the Rabi crops despite the fact the farmers had not had more than 20 per cent yield of their crops due to shortage of water, the farmers complained.

They were using police to recover revenue not only for the cultivated land but also for the uncultivated land, they said.

Farmers in Sobhodero also staged a demonstration in front of the tomb of Sufi saint Mehdi Shah of Jahania to protest against unavailability of water in Abul wah, Daraza minor and Ghulam Ali Shakh.

They said that they had not been able to cultivate cotton this season due to perennial shortage of irrigation water.—BoC
