KARACHI, May 19: Taking strict notice of the death of a bus driver following torture by police in SITE, Capital City Police Officer Niaz Siddiqui has got a case registered against six policemen allegedly involved in the incident.

Two policemen had been arrested while raids were being conducted to apprehend the remaining four.

The CCPO has nominated DIG Operations Mushtaq Shah as the Investigation Officer and directed him to submit a report.

ASI Sabir, Head Constable Nadeem Akbar, Constables Suhaildad, Shamsher Khan and Bashir Shah and mobile van driver Mukhtar Ahmed during patrolling intercepted a bus (No JB-4333). An exchange of harsh words between the driver and the policemen was followed by a fight during which the driver suffered heart attack. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. Following registration of the case, Head Constable Nadeem Akbar and Constable Suhail Dad have been arrested while search is on to arrest the others.

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Secretary Fazalur Rehman expressing grave concern over the alleged police highhandedness asked the concerned authorities to submit their reports within the next three days.

The chief secretary sought details regarding the FIR and directed the PPO and the CCPO to make impartial investigation and take legal action against those responsible.—APP/PPI
