ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has changed its plan for the Independence Day and now it will celebrate the event instead of holding protest for ‘Haqiqqi Azadi’ as it had planned earlier.

The PTI has decided that its workers will now take part in celebrations on the eve of Independence Day, carrying national flag in one hand and party flag in the other.

Party Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan told journalists that the party would celebrate the Independence Day.

PTI Islamabad president Aamir Mughal said that workers will hold a rally from Zero Point on Aug 13 at 9pm. He said PTI workers would carry portraits of Imran Khan and wave national and party flags while taking part in the rally.

“As per directions of the party, there will not be any protest. PTI workers will celebrate the Independence Day,” PTI Islamabad president Aamir Mughal said.

The PTI founder Imran Khan had earlier given a call for party workers to hold protest on Aug 5. Later he gave another call for protest on Aug 14, saying that the nation could not get ‘Haqiqqi Azadi’ unless it made efforts for it.

The PML-N government had criticised the PTI call to hold protest on the Independence Day, saying that it was unfortunate that the PTI had planned to hold protest on Independence Day.

27th Amendment

Separately, PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram has said the PTI will bulldoze the “agenda-driven and person-specific” 27th Amendment that he said was designed to further cripple court powers.

“The 26th Amendment was a judicial massacre, and now they want to finish the job with the 27th Amendment. They want to strip the Supreme Court of its authority, turn high courts into rubber stamps and making sure no judge dares stand in their way. But the PTI will not let this happen,” he said.
