LAHORE: Punjab Police have finalised security arrangements for the Independence Day.

Punjab Inspector General of Police Dr Usman Anwar said on Tuesday that on the independence day, security would remain on high alert and strict vigilance would be maintained over anti-state and criminal elements.

He said more than 480 celebration events across the province, including Lahore, would be provided with comprehensive security.

According to the police spokesperson, over 30,000 police officers and personnel would be deployed for security and traffic arrangements across the province. A total of 274 Elite, 165 Quick Response Force (QRF) units, 1,428 motorcycle teams, and 790 police vehicles would be on patrol. Security checking would be assisted by 143 walk-through gates and 1,762 metal detectors.

All activities would be monitored through the Safe Cities Authority cameras. In the provincial capital alone, more than 8,000 police officers and personnel would ensure the security and traffic arrangements.

The spokesperson said that the celebrations included eight A-Plus category programmes, 82 A category programmes, and 392 B category programmes.

The IGP said that after Operation Bunyan al Marsoos, the defeated enemy could attempt to sabotage the peace and instructed the personnel stationed at inter-provincial border check posts to keep strict watch on the “Fitna al-Khawarij” and “Fitna al-Hindustan.”

He directed the Lahore CCPO, RPOs, CPOs, and DPOs to personally supervise the security and traffic arrangements for the celebrations.

He said the police, Special Branch, CTD, intelligence agencies, patrolling, Dolphin Squad, PRU, and Traffic Police must ensure the best possible arrangements. There would be zero tolerance for hooliganism, one-wheeling, aerial firing, blocking roads, and harassing women, he added.
