BAJAUR: Terrorists blew up an abandoned police post in Salarzai tehsil of Bajaur district on Monday night, the police said on Tuesday.

They said that the incident occurred in Dehraki area.

The explosives went off with a bang, significantly damaging the post, which had been lying vacant for last one year, the area people told Dawn.

The police confirmed the attack. “Unidentified terrorists destroyed the empty building in Dehraki area using explosives.

A police official told Dawn that a team of Salarzai police station rushed to the area after the bombing to trace the culprits.

The official said an investigation had been launched to determine the motive and identify those behind the attack, adding that an FIR would be registered against the unknown terrorists soon.

Meanwhile, the area elders strongly condemned the incident, terming it a bid to sabotage the ongoing peace efforts.

“The bombing of the abandoned post is a matter of great concern as it appears to be a bid to undermine peace in the Salarzai region,” said elder Malik Hafizur Rehman in a social media post.

Hafizur Rehman, who is from Dehraki area, and Sikandar Zeb, a PTI activist and the elder son of MPA Anwar Zeb Khan, demanded stern action against those behind the attack.
