PESHAWAR, May 17: Educationists have stressed the need for women’s literacy and urged parents to provide equal education opportunities for their daughters, saying that educated mothers could make their children usefull citizines.

“We must focus on educating our sisters and daughters, because educated mothers can make a marked difference as far as the bringing up of children is concerned,” said Prof Dr Ahmad Ali, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Peshawar.

He was addressing the 51st prize distribution ceremony of the junior section of the University Model School at the campus here on Tuesday.

According to him, teachers and parents were equally responsible for increasing the level of women literacy. He said that girls needed to be taught morality, ethics along with their regular syllabus.

“Character-building must be the top priority of teachers and parents. Only morally and ethically sound students can serve the society with devotion,” he said.

Stressing the need to teach information technology at primary level, he said it was necessary to enable them to cope with future challenges.

He said that if students were given quality education, it was possible for the nation to make progress, which was vital for prosperity.—Correspondent
