PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Thursday extended his congratulations to newly elected president Ashraf Dar and other office bearers on the formation of the All Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Newspapers Society and the election of its new cabinet.

A statement issued here said that in his message the governor emphasised that a free and responsible press was the cornerstone of democratic societies, and the role of the journalist community in this regard was highly commendable.

He expressed the hope that the newly-elected cabinet would play an active role in addressing the issues faced by journalists and promoting quality journalism.

He added that Pakistan Peoples Party had always championed the cause of press freedom and the rights of working journalists.

He further hoped that the new leadership of the society would also work for the welfare and rights of media workers.
