KASUR, May 15: Scores of people, including women, held a protest demonstration here on Monday at Mandi Usmanwala against the failure of Lahore Electric Supply Company to restore power supply to five villages for the last 10 days. The protesters, led by former nazim Mian M Arif, burnt tyres, blocked traffic for more than three hours and chanted slogans against XEN, SDO and other authorities concerned. Many families have reportedly shifted to other villages owing to shortage of drinking water for the last 10 days.

They said the continuous power breakdown would badly affect their standing crops as well.

The protesters threatened that they would stage a sit-in in front of the Governor’s House, Lahore if power supply was not restored with 12 hours.

PU affiliation: The Government Degree College for Women has got affiliation with the Punjab University for the postgraduate classes in English, Islamiyat and political science.

The student, the parents and social circles have lauded the efforts of principal Kausar Perveen for getting affiliation.

It may be recalled that 170 students enrolled in the masters programme during the last academic year, had to take examination as private candidates as former principal Nasreen Khalid Bhatti failed to fulfil the criterion required by the Punjab University for affiliation.
