HYDERABAD, May 13: Chief of Awami Tahreek, Rasool Bux Palijo, on Friday blamed the rulers for creating an artificial shortage of water in Sindh under a planned conspiracy.
Speaking to party workers at Awami House, Mr Palijo regretted that even drinking water was not available to people in Thatta, Badin, Mirpurkhas and many other districts of the province.
He said that the shortage of water had already turned the province into a desert and destroyed people economically. Still, the rulers kept shamelessly announcing there was no shortage of water and were adamant to construct Kalabagh and Bhasha dams and Greater Thal Canal, he said.
He likened the situation in Sindh to that of Kerbala and said the Punjabi rulers were robbing water of Indus. But, Sindhis were now fully conscious of their rights and would not let them get away with the crime, he said.
He urged people to participate in the Awami Tahreek rally in Thatta on Sunday against acute shortage of water, rampant lawlessness, proposed bifurcation of Thatta district and other grave problems confronting the province.
JSSF: The activists of Jeay Sindh Students Federation (JSSF) on Saturday staged a demonstration outside the Hyderabad Press Club to protest against what they called VIP treatment the Liaquat Hospital was giving to the alleged murderer of their leader Gul Mohammad Bhatti.
They staged hunger strike on the road in front of the club, which was led by Parwano Bhatti, father of late Gul Mohammad Bhatti.
JSSF leaders, Suriah Sindhi, Sono Khan Lashari and Habib Bhutto said that the accused, Mazhar Memon, had been admitted to a private ward and the Liaquat University Hospital was providing him luxuries including air-conditioner and mobile phone. They called the reported attack on Mazhar Memon on March 28 a drama and condemned the registration of false case of attack against JSSF activists.
STRIKE CALLED OFF: The All-Pakistan Paramedical Staff Federation, Sindh chapter, called off on Saturday hunger strike they had earlier planned to stage outside the Hyderabad Press Club following approval of their service structure.
The paramedics in Liaquat University Hospital held a rally to celebrate the approval of their demand and distributed sweets. The paramedical staff in all the hospitals of the province had staged a series of demonstrations and hunger strikes during past two weeks for the approval of their demand.
