LAKKI MARWAT: A pipeline supplying gas to Punjab was blown up with explosives near Torwah in the Wanda Amir area of Lakki Marwat district on Wednesday, the police said.

Officials said that an improvised explosive device planted by unknown terrorists along the pipeline went off with a bang, damaging it badly.

“The explosion, which created a big crater, was heard in the nearby area,” they said, adding that the pipeline broke into pieces, disrupting gas supply to Punjab.

They said that a large police contingent reached the rural area and launched a search for the terrorists involved in the blast.

It was the third attack on a gas pipeline in the district during the last two weeks.

On the June 17 night, terrorists destroyed the pipeline with a homemade bomb in the Wanda Amir area, while another bomb attack on the pipeline occurred near Jabbarkhel on June 27.

Meanwhile, a police official was injured when motorcyclists opened fire on him in Bannu on Wednesday.

A police official said that constable Zahid Zaman was targeted near Mir Sher Khan Chowk where he was performing official duty.

He said that the assailants escaped on their motorcycle. The official said that the wounded policeman was moved to the District Headquarters hospital, while a large police contingent reached the place and launched a search in the area for the attackers.
