MANSEHRA: A man was killed and over a dozen others were injured when the roof of commercial building of the tehsil municipal administration collapsed at the Lorry Adda area on Saturday.
“We shifted the injured to a health facility after retrieving them from the rubble, where doctors pronounced one of them dead,” Amir Khadam, a Rescue 1122 official, told reporters.
The shopkeepers were busy selling general items in the ground-floor shops of the building, which is owned by the TMA, when a portion of its roof caved in, burying around a dozen people, witnesses said.
“We rushed to the spot, retrieved the injured, and shifted them to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital,” Mr Khadam added.
Six critically injured were later referred to Ayub Medical Complex Hospital in Abbottabad.
Traders demanded of the TMA to immediately dismantle the building’s dilapidated portions to prevent further loss of life.
“We demand the immediate demolition and reconstruction of this multi-storey building to avoid more fatal accidents in future,” an affected trader said.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Ibrar, who was married four days ago, ended his life by shooting himself dead in the Totmera area of Pulrah.
A police team led by DSP Pulrah circle Mohammad Arshad Khan rushed to the scene and shifted the body to a local health facility.
Doctors handed it over to family after completing medico-legal formalities.
“After lodging an FIR, we have started an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the incident,” Mr Khan said.
