PESHAWAR, May 12: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) requires an additional 300 megawatt electricity to meet the summer demand. Thirty-nine grid stations out of 69 in the NWFP and tribal areas are overloaded.

A statement issued on Friday, said that federal Minister for Political Affairs Amir Muqam was informed during a briefing that normally Pesco’s total consumption was 1,800mw, but in summer the company required 300mw additional power.

It said that increase in power consumption had overloaded 39 grid stations and therefore the company had to suspend electricity supply for short durations.

The statement said that work on various projects was underway to overcome power needs. Pesco had already set up a complaint cell at Wapda House.

Pesco officials were asked to avoid loadshedding and action was promised against concerned Xens and SDOs for unscheduled loadshedding.
